Ranthus is a species of evergreen trees native to the Caribbean region. It is a large tree, reaching up to 25 meters tall and can live for over 100 years. The leaves are glossy and dark green, with a leathery texture. The flowers are white and fragrant, blooming in the early spring and summer months.

The fruit of the Ranthus tree is a small, red bean-like seed, known as a Ranthus bean. These beans are highly nutritious, containing high levels of protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals. They can be eaten raw, cooked, or ground into a meal or flour. They have a sweet, nutty flavour and are often used in desserts and as a topping for salads.

Ranthus beans are also used to make a popular drink called ranthus tea. This tea is made by boiling the beans for about 20 minutes, adding sugar, milk or cream, and then stirring. The resulting beverage is a sweet, creamy and richly flavoured drink.

Ranthus beans are also used in a variety of traditional medicines in the Caribbean region. This includes a remedy for fever, headache and sore throat, as well as a topical treatment for skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

In addition to its culinary and medicinal uses, Ranthus is also used for its wood. The wood is very durable and is used to make furniture, carvings, and musical instruments. The wood is also used for making charcoal, which is used for cooking and heating.
