1. Turnips are a root vegetable with a crunchy texture and a slightly sweet, earthy flavor. They are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, folate, potassium and manganese. Turnips can be eaten raw, roasted, boiled, steamed or mashed. They are also great in soups, stews, salads and casseroles.

2. Turnips are a cool season crop that grows best in rich, well-drained soil. They can be planted in the spring or fall and take about four weeks to mature. The greens can be harvested as soon as the turnips reach a two inch size.

3. Turnip seeds are small, round and dark brown or black in color. They are usually sold in packets and have a short shelf life, so it's best to plant them as soon as possible. Plant the seeds in rows, spacing them around two to three inches apart.

4. Turnip greens are also edible and are a great source of vitamins A, C, and K. The greens have a mild, slightly bitter flavor and can be eaten raw, steamed, sautéed or added to soups and stews.

5. Turnips can be an excellent addition to your garden as they are easy to grow and require minimal care. They are also a great source of nutrition and can be enjoyed in a variety of dishes. So why not give turnips a try and add some flavor to your meals!
