 1. Egyptian Walking Onions are a unique variety of Allium cepa, also known as tree onions or topset onions. This perennial vegetable is native to Europe and North Africa but is becoming increasingly popular in North America. The small bulbs can be eaten raw or cooked and add a mild onion flavor to dishes. The stems and leaves, which are edible, are also known as “topsets” because they grow up and out of the ground, resembling a walking onion.

 2. Egyptian Walking Onions produce a unique and attractive flower stalk that stands up to 1 foot high. The flowers are small and white and are clustered in a globe-like head. The flowers are followed by the papery seed heads that contain the small, dark-colored onion seeds.

 3. The Egyptian Walking Onion plants are fast-growing and can produce an abundance of onions in a short period of time. The bulbs are small but can be harvested as soon as the plants reach 4-6 inches tall. The bulbs can be harvested at any time, but the flavor and texture of the bulbs are best when harvested after the topsets have produced their seed heads.

 4. The Egyptian Walking Onion is an excellent choice for gardeners looking for a unique and low-maintenance vegetable. The onions are easy to care for and can be grown in containers or in the ground. The plants are drought tolerant and pest resistant, making them a great choice for gardeners in drier climates.

 5. The Egyptian Walking Onion is an excellent addition to any kitchen garden, as it adds a unique flavor and texture to dishes. The onions are perfect for adding to soups and stews, or as a topping on salads and sandwiches. They are also great for pickling and can be used to make a tasty onion relish.
