Amsonia is a genus of perennial flowering plants native to North America. The plants have blue or white star-shaped flowers and are commonly known as Bluestar or Blue Star. The foliage of the Amsonia plants is a bright yellow-green color and they are drought tolerant.

Amsonia plants grow to a height of about two feet and are hardy in USDA zones 4 – 9. They are easy to grow and require little maintenance. They prefer full sun to partial shade and need well-drained soil. The plants will flower in the late spring and last until mid-summer.

Amsonia seeds are small and round, with a black or dark-brown color. They are edible and have a sweet, nutty flavor. They can be used as a snack or added to salads or soups. The seeds can also be ground into a powder and used as a thickening agent or as a substitute for cornstarch.

Amsonia is a great addition to any garden or landscape. The plants are low maintenance and have attractive flowers and foliage. They are also deer resistant and are a great choice for a low-maintenance garden.

Amsonia plants are also a great choice for using in flower beds or as a border. They will add texture and color to any garden. The plants are also drought tolerant and can survive in low-moisture conditions.

3. Till the soil to rid it of weeds and to increase air circulation. Apply compost to the soil after tilling.

4. Place two or three in a hole about ½ to 1 inch deep in the soil along a fence or under a 6-foot-tall trellis form. The holes should be 15 to 23 inches apart and rows 3 to 5 feet apart. You can also start in small plastic pots in a commercial soil mix.
