Alyssum is a genus of flowering plants that consists of 100 species. It is a member of the Brassicaceae family and is also known as sweet alyssum, sweet Alison, or madwort. This annual plant is native to the Mediterranean region, from Portugal and Morocco to Syria and Turkey. The plant is grown for its small, fragrant, four-petaled white or pink flowers that attract bees and other pollinators.

Alyssum is a very popular garden plant due to its neat, compact habit and its ability to provide long-lasting color in both sun and shade. It can be used as a groundcover, in hanging baskets, or in rock gardens. The plant grows from 6 inches to 1 foot in height and blooms all season long.

Alyssum is also a great choice for landscaping because it is drought-tolerant and requires little maintenance. It is easy to propagate by cuttings or division and can be directly sown into the soil in the spring and fall.

The small, round seed of the Alyssum plant is also known as sweet alyssum seed. This tiny, hard-shelled seed is used for a variety of purposes, including as a cover crop, to make a sweet, nutty-tasting cereal, and as an ingredient in salads. The seed is a rich source of vitamins and minerals, and it is a good source of dietary fiber.

Alyssum is a beautiful, low-maintenance plant that adds vibrant color and a sweet scent to any garden or landscape. It is easy to grow from seed or cuttings, and its seeds are versatile and nutritious. Alyssum is a great choice for any gardener looking to add a bit of color and fragrance to their garden.
