River Bulrush is a tall, perennial wetland plant that grows in still and slow-moving waters. It has long, flat, grass-like leaves that are green in the summer and brown in the winter. The stems are round and hollow and can grow up to three metres in height.

The flowers of River Bulrush are small, greenish-yellow spikes on the top of the stem, which bloom in the late summer and early autumn. The plant is an important food source for birds, fish, and other wildlife, and is also used in traditional medicine.

River Bulrush seeds, known as 'hulls', are a popular food for humans, too. They are full of nutrients, including protein, starch, and fibre. They can be consumed raw or cooked in a variety of dishes, such as porridge, soups, and salads.

The plant is also used in landscaping and gardening, as it helps to prevent soil erosion, reduce water pollution, and provide habitat for wildlife. It is also a great source of oxygen for underwater creatures.
